I had to stop reading the news and Facebook yesterday because of the ish out there this week, so I'm looking to sacchariny things to turn a rubbishy week into a pleasant week. Only kittens and flowers allowed.

My mom has of photograph of herself in a bikini in the 1960s, standing in front a picnic table on a bright day. It was one of those 'full coverage' bikinis, with ruffles. When I think of summer, I see that picture in my head. The ruffle bikini and huge honking sunglasses (don't worry Mom, I don't have the picture, so I can't post it) and a big smile on her face. 48.5 hours until our first beach vacation of the year. Man, there is nothing like summer.
This one is for you Momsy!

On Friday, March 21st, The Smithsonian Channel aired Blondie's New York, an hour-long documentary on the making of Blondie's breakthrough album, Parallel Lines. Poseidon and I recorded Blondie's New York, and we finally watched it Sunday night. It was interesting, but short. I would have enjoyed seeing more, but the documentary focused on the making of Parallel Lines, more than 35 years since its release (can you believe that???). The Smithsonian Channel is airing the documentary, at least through April, so check their schedule.
Album producer, Mike Chapman is great in this documentary. He still seems 'giddy' when speaking about the making of the album, and using the Roland CR-78 drum machine on "Heart of Glass." I know nothing of drum machines (that's more Poseidon's area), but I was fascinated.
I have an aesthetic appreciation for all that is Debbie Harry. Always will. Not just anyone can rock pink.
As a Dum Dum Girls fan, I would have enjoyed catching this Debbie Harry/Dum Dum Girls collaboration at SXSW.

I haven't done one of these posts for some time, and I'm waiting for a report to run, so I thought I would throw one together quickly as I'm listening to "Birth in Reverse." My title should begin with Who rather than What. Today, I find St. Vincent (Annie Clark) aesthetically pleasing. And guess who has tickets for Annie's sold out show tonight at Haw River Ballroom? We do, that's who : )
It's the hair.

My Pinterest addiction wore off ages ago, but I popped over there last week for just a minute, long enough to realize that competitive creepiness-posting is a popular sport on the old Halloween pin boards.
I did not have much time to waste spend, but I was inspired to go in search of my own breathtakingly spooky pictures (I did try to find the original sources for these pictures, so obviously I had some time to waste) and wow, I found some striking images. B o o.

I haven't done a Five for Friday in some time now!
Poseidon and I watched Alfred Hitchcock's "Marnie" last night, and I now have a girl crush on Tippi Hedren. I've seen "The Birds" several times, but I paid little attention to how gorgeous she was, but in "Marnie," I paid attention, and she was lovely! So, for this long overdue Five for Friday post, my five girl crushes, in no particular order:

Two weeks after my neck surgery, and I'm going mad (more on all that later), but I do get to return to work tomorrow, so normality is within reach.
During my surgical recovery, I wasn't able to do much, including surfing and working with my laptop, but I did find some cool design work online today, and this is apropos because tomorrow, as I get ready for my first day back to work, I will be putting makeup on for the first time in 2 weeks (I've barely washed my hair and Poseidon has commented on my unshaven legs more than once), and caring about my appearance again, so I thought, "I'm going to put my best face forward."

This post is 100% fluff. Blue Christmas lights have always been my favorite. They are just so stunning against a nighttime backdrop. Beijing's blue fiber optic Christmas tree just made me say, "Pretty" out loud. B E A U T I F U L.

I know this sugar art isn't exactly "Christmasy" but in the Carolina's today, it is too warm to feel like Christmas. I think ice cream is currently more appropriate than soup (I don't really like either...too much anyway). I happened upon these artists (Pip & Pop) today, and it's brilliant! A good use for sugar if ever there was one.
If Poseidon and I had a spare warehouse or something, this would be the obvious thing for us to do. It makes my eyes and brain happy, so it gets a "What I Found Aesthetically Pleasing Today" post, so please--pretty?--enjoy it!
Have a look at this article from hifructose.com about Pip & Pop. Pip & Pop are an Australian artist duo, Nicole Andrijevic and Tanya Schultz. Their works, using dyed sugar and glitter are
splendiferous (we don't use that word nearly enough).

Sewing. It calms me and annoys the hades out of me at the same time, yet it's a creative outlet that I will still pursue. 60's fashion. My other love. Perhaps I can combine the two? My sewing machine meets 60's fashion, on the dining room table (that is where my sewing machine currently calls home). Tonight.
My friend T posted this on my Facebook wall and my twin sister's Facebook wall last week and I'm digging the cat dresses! Hmmm, I'm already picking out the fabric in my head.
Do I tell my twin sister, or just make the dresses first? What say you, Mel? Oh, and who gets the head and who gets the tail?
